What you will learn

This is an opportunity to learn traditional French tapestry weaving and progress further with non-traditional materials and techniques. Beginners start by weaving a sampler on a small frame before making a tapestry of their own design. Experienced weavers work on individual projects.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Beginners will complete an introductory course in tapestry, warping up, learning how to start, finish, change colour, weave simple shapes and learn a few techniques
  • Intermediates will explore a variety of textures and techniques and work on their own project.
  • Advanced learners will pursue personal projects and explore new techniques and methods. They will also be able to work on larger or more complex pieces

  • Full fee
  • Concession fee
  • Class format and activities

Beginners will warp up a frame and weave a small tapestry sampler. More advanced students will be encouraged to create a tapestry on a larger scale , perhaps using more unusual materials and techniques. All students are encouraged to develop their own creativity, and since all levels work in the same studio they benefit from each other's work.

    Entry requirements

No previous experience of tapestry is necessary but an interest in drawing or design is helpful.
