Kate Ryder’s recital weaves themes of celebration and of memory, with evocations of birdsong in Messiaen, of distant and sacred bells in Diana Burrell’s Pentecost and ghostly echoes in Crumb’s A Little Midnight Music – his homage to Jazz pianist Thelonius Monk. Included are two further dedications, Takemitsu’s Rain Tree Sketch II (in memoriam Messiaen) and Fujikura’s Akiko’s Diary, to the memory of a young girl.
