Bill Laurance to Perform with Morley Big Band in Morley Jazz Series
We’re excited to announce that our artist in residence, Bill Laurance, will be the guest musician at one of our upcoming Jazz at Morley concerts, playing alongside the Morley Big Band and our Jazz Programme Manager Flavio Li Vigni. The Big Band will be premiering a new work, written specially for them by Bill and arranged by our tutor Adam Dyer.
A classically-trained pianist and Grammy Award-winning artist, Bill has been our artist in residence since 2016, providing tuition and guidance to our students as well as offering jazz and popular music workshops to the public. He was one of the original members of the internationally acclaimed jazz fusion band Snarky Puppy, and has released four albums as a solo artist – Flint in 2014, Swift in 2015, Aftersun in 2016, and most recently Cables, which was released on 29 March this year. At its launch concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Bill acknowledged Morley’s support for the project – Cables was entirely recorded at Morley’s own recording studio, and our Music Technology Programme Manager Camilo Salazar and Technician George Hider are both credited for their contributions as recording engineers on the album.
Cables is available now on vinyl, CD and MP3, and through streaming services. Tickets are also available now for all of the remaining concerts in the Jazz at Morley series, including the performance featuring Bill, Flavio and the Morley Big Band, which takes place on Friday 7 June – visit our Events page for more details.
