For instrumentalists and singers of Diploma level and above. Develop your ensemble and accompaniment skills in this lively, practice-based class, with concerts throughout the year. Students can join in any term, subject to audition.
You will prepare repertoire chosen by you and the tutor for a workshop style presentation each week, where the tutor will offer advice and guidance. You will have ample opportunities to rehearse during each session but you are encouraged to rehearse outside the class, particularly when preparing for concerts. You are encouraged to share ideas and join in a positive discussion, so please bring another copy of your music for perusal by the class. Your public performances will be recorded and assessed by the tutor. A copy of the recording will be available to you and the tutor will always offer personal feedback. You will need to follow and contribute to discussions in English. Music Study can include the use of digital resources such as listening to recordings, watching videos online, using appropriate mobile applications and following Moodle -Morley's virtual learning environment- to enhance your learning inside and outside the classroom. Music study also offers a range of benefits including being an enjoyable way to enhance wellbeing. Music practice at Morley can also serve to enhance skills relevant for employment including developing creativity, developing high-concentration levels, building self-confidence, working to deadlines, being able to control nerves and working as part of a team.
You should be of a high technical and musical standard with good sight reading skills. Some experience of playing chamber music would be advantageous, but is not essential. Entry is by informal audition. You should prepare two contrasting pieces/movements. Rudimentary sight reading will also be given.
You will be expected to practise the given repertoire during the week, and have something prepared for each lesson. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.
Instrumentalists are required to bring their own instruments Music and an additional copy for class perusal if possible. Pencil and rubber . Enthusiasm and commitment.
