This is a practical introduction to drawing skills, using a range of materials. You will be taught various aspects of drawing from observation including proportion, perspective, line and tone. Examples of historical and contemporary drawing will be discussed in class and learners are encouraged to develop a personal response to subjects including objects, portraits, landscape, and photographic images.
You will focus on drawing from direct observation and from photographs, using a variety of materials and techniques. This is a practical course and you will spend most of class time drawing. The tutor will facilitate group discussions, give presentations, demonstrations and work with you one to one and in groups. By prior arrangement with your tutor, you should be able to attend online via Teams on those occasions when you are unable to come in to Morley in person.
This structured course is for beginners and for those who want to refresh skills. You can choose to study for one term or more across the year. Each term is different. If you have not drawn before, you may like to try one of our 1 session tasters.
This course takes place in C33, which is accessible by stairs and lift. A smart phone is useful for photographing and sharing finished work on Teams.
All materials are provided onsite, but do bring your own if you have them: pencils, eraser, sharpener, willow charcoal, coloured pastels, biro and drawing ink, brushes, dip pens, sticks, glue (such as Pritt Stick, and a ruler. You are advised to wear old clothing or an apron.
