This course has been designed for those with existing Glass experience, who wish to extend and build on existing skills both creatively and technically. This course provides Learners the opportunity to develop design skills, creativity and practical techniques through negotiated self-directed projects. Learners are to work independently in the workshop with guidance from expert glass tutor Anna Chrysopoulo: The course is project-based allowing Learners to focus on personal interests and directions; projects are devised in consultation with your tutor and may include a range of expanded kiln forming techniques including fusing and slumping, fuse-to-cast techniques alongside cold-working processes. Emphasis is placed on using research, drawings and design to expand, communicate and translate ideas into glass.

What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Apply techniques and processes safely under health and safety guidelines
- Work independently and with confidence in the specialist glass studios
- Identify the technique and process at relevant stages of the glass-making process
- Identify and evaluate the suitability of selected materials within each technique and process
- Explore kiln-formed glass techniques to produce final outcomes.
Cost
Class format and activities
You will work independently to design and make fused, slumped or fuse to cast glass forms using a range of design and technical skills. Exploration of materials and techniques is encouraged. Learners will be working on individual self-directed projects guided by your tutor. Teaching takes place in a practical workshop setting, including both demonstration and discussion. Informal assessment will take place on a continual basis throughout the course using observation, and also a group Learner presentation at the end of the course outlining the development of individual projects. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
Entry requirements

What you need to know before you enrol
This course is not suitable for beginners. The fee includes tuition, specialist materials, alongside use of specialist equipment, including glass kiln firings etc. However, Learners will be expected to purchase some of their own Kiln-formed glass materials such as alternative glass types (guidance will be given by the tutor on the first session). You may need to purchase your own small tools, and possibly some additional materials as advised by your tutor.
What you need
It would be helpful to bring a sketchbook/notebook, pencils/pen/marker pen etc. You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals); an apron. We have basic tools in the workshop which have been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment. Glass and other materials are available for sale to students, however, Learners may want to buy or bring in their own resources, to have a wider variety in choice of materials.
