What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the key techniques to successful speaking in public
- Be able to deliver a short presentation effectively
- Know what to avoid and how to deal with questions on your speech
- Use slides or note cards to enhance your talk
Class format and activities
You will be working in pairs and groups to practise techniques and learn from each other. Students will watch examples of good and poor public speaking and deduce what to follow and what to avoid. There will be an opportunity to rehearse a talk and present it to the group at the end of the course, with feedback from the tutor.
Entry requirements
You should have a good level of spoken English, minimum ESOL L1
What you need to know before you enrol
Think about what you would like to improve: planning, confidence or delivering the talk and what you intend to use public speaking for. Try watching some speeches online.
What you need
Pen and notebook. Access to a computer is useful.
