A small orchestra of high standard, playing music from the 18th century to the present day. Students can join in any term. There will be two concerts this term at the end of October and beginning of December.
You will learn from the conductor through participation in rehearsals and preparation for performances, and from your colleagues in the orchestra. The repertoire the Orchestra will work on this term is: Glazunov Reverie Orientale op. 14 no. 2 Moeran Sinfonietta Haydn Symphony no. 103 'Drum roll' Moeran Whythorne's Shadow Shostakovich Cello Concerto no. 1 Haydn Symphony no.101 'Clock'
There is an audition process, but entry is also by recommendation or application to the conductor. A level of ABRSM Grade 7/8 or comparable standard is needed and ideally some depth of previous orchestral experience. It is possible under some circumstances to join the orchestra after the start of each term.
Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all players.
You will only need to bring your instrument.
