Morley Radio Drama Rep is an exciting and unique course that reflects a radio repertory company, where you will work on four short radio dramas throughout the course. The course in designed to support, engage, promote and inspire acting and writing talent here at Morley College. You will work with director Julia Lewis to rehearse the short drama's and then record them in our professional radio studio. The mix of scripts will be rich and varied including a mix of contemporary and classic drama, comedies, horror, thrillers to name a few. The work will be edited, broadcast and podcast on the popular Morley Radio which now has an international listening audience. This is a great course for showcasing your acting range, provides you with material that you can send to agents or use for your voice reel and CV credits. The course will be fun and rewarding with the radio productions produced and edited to a professional standard. Radio Rep Company at Morley can also serve to enhance skills relevant for employment by means of encouraging increased confidence, physical and vocal dexterity, and concentration. Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Develop advanced vocal skills and mic techniques for audio vocal delivery
- Rehearse and record a range of dramatic genres and styles applying acting and vocal technique in a professional recording studio
- Develop vocal characterisation to a range of scripts
- Participate in ensemble radio studio acting and learn the skills of adapting to a wide range of characterisations
- Receive and take direction
- Learn the connection between movement and the voice for effective and engaging audio performances
- Engage in sourcing and creating sound FX file
- Evaluate and discuss your development and recorded work.
Cost
Class format and activities
Mode of delivery: in class rehearsals. Recording in Morley Radio studio 4 times over the course. The 16-week course will be divided into 4 units where the company will rehearse a short play and then go into the recording studio to record it in final week of that block (except in the last week where you will record in week 3 of the block with the final session for reflection and feedback). You will record 4 short 10 minute plays in total. The director will work with you on vocal characterisation, audio acting technique and all the challenges of this fast turnaround of performing radio plays.
Entry requirements
You will need to be fluent in speaking, reading and writing in English. Students who have already completed radio drama courses or drama courses at Morley may apply. Entry for new students is by audition and interview. Places for this course are limited. Please email drama@staging.morleycollege.ac.uk to book your slot. .
What you need to know before you enrol
You should be able to read a script and act at the same time You will be expected to engage in independent study and preparation. You will need to sign a release form for the final edited recording to be broadcast/podcast on Morley Radio. Excellent attendance and punctuality will be required from all students. This course will include some completion of activities outside of class time, e.g. preparation of favourite exercises to share with fellow students. Photography and film recording of class activities may be used in order to aid learning. These images may also be used for publicity or marketing materials produced by Morley College, both online and in print. You will have the opportunity to either confirm or decline consent to being filmed or photographed.
