An Introduction to the fundamental core strengthening exercises found in Pilates. Aimed at improving and correcting posture, class is taught and worked on-line. No previous experience necessary, new students welcome to join at the beginning of every term. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- General postural awareness with focus on the spine
- Breathing techniques
- Core stability including deep abdominal muscles, lower back muscles and pelvic floor muscles
- Mobility exercises to improve joint mobility and co-ordination
- Simple movements performed with body alignment and with use of core strength

Class format and activities
Mode of delivery: online plus. We will be using Microsoft Teams as our online platform for live-stream. The tutor may provide additional material such as video recaps and/or practical tasks via any of the online. Practical floor/mat work. Exercises and learners are encouraged to practice regular breathing and patterning. In order to ensure you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor. please ensure you have adequate space and the tutor is able to view you on-line. This course offers a range of benefits including being an enjoyable way to increase fitness whilst enhancing wellbeing, enhance skills, encouraging increased confidence, physical dexterity and concentration.
Entry requirements
No skills or knowledge are required before joining the course. Adaptations and modifications of exercises will be offered to suit different levels of ability.
What you need to know before you enrol
Students will need a degree of concentration, a reasonable level of fitness and mobility and the ability to work alongside a range of adults. Excellent attendance and punctuality will be required from all students. This course will include some completion of activities outside of class time, e.g. preparation of favourite exercises to share with fellow students. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, have any serious health conditions or a history of injury. Please inform your tutor if there is any physical activity you have be advised to avoid.
What you need
Comfortable clothing, leotard, tights, leggings or tracksuit bottoms. Water.
