What you will learn

This course will help you gain study skills for Access courses or Higher Education. It will improve your English for academic purposes. You need to be at ESOL or English Level 2, or above and be committed to excellent attendance.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Respond to questions from other students following a presentation
  • Improve aspects of standard English, including punctuation
  • Gather ideas for a personal statement/essay and produce a workable plan
  • Write and proof read a personal statement or essay and draft a final version

Class format and activities

You will, - read and develop various forms of writing as well as various academic conventions, - develop your academic speaking skills, - work as a whole group, in pairs or individually, depending on the activity, - use the internet and other technology to develop your language skills, - build your study skills
