What you will learn

This course will help you gain study skills for Access courses or Higher Education. It will improve your English for academic purposes. You need to be at ESOL or English Level 2, or above and be committed to excellent attendance.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • improve editing and proofreading skills
  • gather ideas for a report (or essay) and produce a workable plan
  • write, proofread and produce a final version of a report (or essay)
  • prepare notes for a presentation in class and deliver it in pairs

Class format and activities

You will - read and develop various forms of writing as well as to academic conventions. - develop your academic speaking skills - work as a whole group, in pairs or individually, depending on the type of activity. - use the internet and other technology to develop your language skills. - build your study skills

What you can do next

The teacher will advise you on the next step. If you progress successfully, you may be able to enrol on the Academic Writing course, apply for Access courses or other mainstream courses taught in English.
