A short course introducing the technique of casting clay slip into plaster, allowing reproduction of simple forms in ceramic material. Covering mould making, from your own original, pouring, de-moulding, and finishing for firing. All levels welcome. Basic materials costs included.

What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Make or choose from studio examples, a suitable original to mould from
- Learn to make a slip casting mould from plaster
- Learn to make at least one cast from the mould, finish and prepare it for kiln firing
- Learn & practice Health & Safety procedures of the studio & course
Cost
Class format and activities
Working in clay and plaster make your own moulds and slip casts with tutor guidance. Step by step instruction and demonstration is given on new techniques. Hand outs are given on Health & Safety, materials, techniques & reference materials. There will be an emphasis on relaxed discussion, sharing of knowledge and experience.
Entry requirements
The course is suitable for complete beginners and more experienced students, who want to try out a new technique for reproducing sculpture.
What you need to know before you enrol

What you need
You may use your own clay sculpture (preferably still soft) or object: complex intricate forms will not be suitable for mould making in the time available, but simple found objects (i.e.fruit, flexible plastic toys etc.) may be suitable. Advice will be given. These will be used at the tutors discretion, with reference to Health and Safety. Protective clothing i.e. recommended overall or apron, strong shoes or boots.
