Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Have a working knowledge of traditional and contemporary batik practices
- Use a variety of tools, including tjantings (pen-like tools for applying hot wax) to draw with wax and to use fabric dyes
- Create designs on natural fabrics
- Use the college steamer to fix the colours

Class format and activities
Students will learn through observing tutor demonstration followed by practical experience supported by technical handouts. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience through discussion, show and tell and group critique at the end of the session. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with students one-to-one and in groups. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

The course is suitable for complete beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills and develop their creativity.
What you need to know before you enrol
