There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Welcome to the Morley Ukulele group - a fun and welcoming place to expand your repertoire in an ensemble setting. We will be playing songs and instrumentals across a wide repertoire of styles and you can bring you own suggestions to the class. This a workshop for all levels of ability though complete beginners would be advised to go on short preparatory class first if you have not yet learned a few chords/chord shapes.
Listening to and observing tutor demonstration and explanation. Singing and playing a variety of songs, learning different accompaniment styles. Playing melody together while others play the accompaniment. Playing arrangements. Sometimes on the day you will be asked to play something you have not done before. There will always be something simple you can do. You can choose to a certain extent the level of challenge you want to try. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. There will be a short introductory period of two weeks where we will brush up on skills and make sure everyone can participate. During the course you will develop additional musical & technical skills and these may go beyond the basic learning outcomes for more experienced players. For more advanced players it is intended that Improvisation and solo ukulele pieces will be explored.
You should be able to play 6-8 chords and able to understand chord diagrams at a basic level. Ideally you will be able to play from TAB but this will be covered in the first couple of weeks if you can not yet do so. Please contact the music department using music@staging.morleycollege.ac.uk if you would like to discuss your suitability or other aspects of the group.
This course makes no unusual demands, the ukulele may be played sitting or standing. You will be asked to look at sheets of songs and TAB on a music stand so you will need to be able to read in those conditions. Please make us aware at the outset if you require additional support regarding your learning needs so we can do our best to accommodate.
A ukulele (soprano, concert, tenor or baritone). Ukulele banjos are also OK if you have one. You will also need tuner, Pen/pencil and notebook. All other materials will be supplied by the tutor.
