There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
A hybrid piano course for UK and international students. Develop your technique, musicianship, knowledge and understanding of repertoire through playing, listening and group discussion. For those players above Grade 8 (ABRSM) standard. Students can join in any term, subject to audition.
Sessions will be held in the college hall with Steinway and Yamaha grand pianos and will also be live streamed for students outside London including international students. You will have a choice to attend onsite or online. Each student plays several times a term and works in detail with the tutor. Usually 5-6 students perform during the course of a session. The attending students are encouraged to make comments and partake in the proceedings. Hearing others perform a great variety of repertoire is just as important a part of learning. Every week there is also a technical session where a technical study is worked on in detail. Students are encouraged to practice and play to the class . Tutor frequently introduces suitable pieces for the class to learn. You will need to follow and participate in discussions in English.
This course is suitable for players of above Grade 8 .
International students, who live outside the UK, can join this course fully online. Equivalent learning experiences and opportunities are provided for all students regardless of how they choose to participate (in-person or online). You may want to join only as an observer and not an active participant at 1/3 of the full course fee. As a student of a hybrid piano course at Morley College you will: • Study at an institution focusing on musical excellence • learn with our family of outstanding teaching staff and visiting professors • become part of our diverse community • have access to weekly updated online material • have access to live recordings of our regular music events • practise your English language skills by joining discussions in English • receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course In addition to the entry requirement, students must also be prepared to spend a significant amount of time practising their works out of class time. Students are asked to do some research on the background of the piece they are learning and talk to the class. There is an informal concert at the end of Autumn and Spring term and an end-of -year concert at the end of summer term. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.
Music scores relevant to the lessons and notebook and pencil. Each student should keep a journal where they can record feedback from the tutor and to reflect on their progress both in class and during their own practice out of college.
