What you will learn

You are at an ESOL or English Level 2, or above. You are on, or preparing for, Access programmes or University entrance. The course develops academic writing, reading, discussion and presentation skills while looking at grammar, punctuation and style.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Respond to questions from other students following a presentation
  • Improve aspects of Standard English including grammar
  • Gather ideas for a personal statement or essay and produce a workable plan
  • Write, proof read and produce a final version of a personal statement or an essay

Class format and activities

You will - read and develop various forms of writing as well as academic conventions - develop academic speaking skills - work as a whole group, in pairs or individually, depending on the activity - use the internet and other technology to develop your language skills - build your study skills In order to ensure you make the best possible progress, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

This course is not intended to be used to work on or proof read coursework for other colleges or universities. Good progress depends on good attendance, regular practice of English and completing homework.
