What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Sight-sing melodies with greater confidence
- Write down melodies and rhythms that you hear with increased confidence
- Recognise the shape and structure of melodies
- Construct and identify chords in major and minor keys
- Develop confidence with identifying the chords which accompany a melody
Cost
Class format and activities
Practise of intervals, rhythms, scales and chords. Involves singing, writing musical examples, clapping, active listening, and developing the short-term memory. Singing in relative solfa (moveable doh) will be a key component of the course.
Entry requirements
You will need to be familiar with music theory to at least ABRSM Grade 3 or equivalent. Students should also have some familiarity with relative solfa / tonic solfa / moveable doh.

Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.
