BTEC HND Ceramics

Our HND Ceramics course will make sure students gain professional practical and design skills to support future careers in Ceramics. Alongside advanced clay-construction and mouldmaking skills students will establish conceptual confidence, inspired and guided by a team of subject specialist tutors. At Morley Waterloo, our small group sizes ensure maximum support and tuition for each student to ensure the best possible progress and achievement. Our HND specialist ceramics, mould-making and design studios are equipped with industry standard digital and practical equipment to enable students to utilise technologies alongside deepening knowledge of ceramic materials and techniques. We also have a stimulating and inspirational schedule of visiting artists, lecturers and designer-makers who will introduce students to a range of innovative approaches and career possibilities. By the end of the course students will have achieved a Pearson Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Product Design, the Ceramics Pathway. Students will have developed a personal creative vocabulary incorporating knowledge of ceramic materials and will have an extensive portfolio. Students benefit from a launch at ‘New Designers’ and an exhibition in the Morley Gallery space to exhibit their final major project. Our previous students have gone on to set up their own ceramic studios and practices, gain entry on to level 6 BA courses and gain direct entry onto MA ceramics courses. They have successfully taken part in art/design ceramics focused events such as 100% design, Potfest and Celebrating Ceramics as well as exhibiting at One Year On New Designers and with Mint and New Ashgate Gallery.
