Looping is an apparently simple basketry technique that has lots of variations to produce different patterns and textures. You will learn several of these variations, as well as looping around a core, to produce round vessels as well as rectangular pouches. You will be encouraged to experiment with a range of fibres, both natural and manmade, to produce different results.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Know how to do simple looping as well as several variations
- Understand how to select prepare materials for weaving
- Know how to shape a piece and join in new fibre
- Produce a series of samples or finished works

Class format and activities
The tutor will bring in and discuss relevant samples and demonstrate techniques. You will practise the techniques with observation and feedback from the tutor. You will also work on an individual project, where you will share your knowledge and experience with the group through discussion and show and tell.
Entry requirements
No previous experience is necessary, but a degree of manual dexterity is required.
What you need to know before you enrol
The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building. There is partial disabled access via a stair lift. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 or Art & Design Admin on: 0207 450 1934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs.

Pen and notebook to make notes, folder for handouts. Basic materials will be provided, but you may want to explore others when working on your own projects.
