This is a practical introduction to drawing skills, using a range of materials. You will be taught various aspects of drawing from observation including proportion, perspective, line and tone. Examples of historical and contemporary drawing will be discussed in class and learners are encouraged to develop a personal response to subjects including landscape, portraits, objects and photographic images.
You will focus on drawing from direct observation and from photographs, using a variety of materials and techniques. This is a practical course and you will spend most of class time drawing. The tutor will facilitate group discussions, give presentations, demonstrations and work with students one to one and in groups.
This structured course is for beginners and for those who want to refresh skills. You can choose to study for one term or more across the year. Each term is different.
Some materialss are available to buy in-studio
You will need to provide a sketchbook. Some basic materials are provided, and additional paper and other materials are available for purchase at a low cost. Alternatively, you may wish to bring your own materials. You are advised to wear protective clothing e.g. old shirt or apron.
