What you will learn

The course will develop the basic techniques and personal observational principals required to draw and paint, expressively and with confidence. You will explore a variety of drawing media including pencils, charcoal and paint. The course will introduce still life, landscape and the figure/portrait working to a compositional theme. You will be introduced to new ways of seeing, thinking and working and you will be encouraged to develop your own individual styles and methods.

  • Draw and paint with more confidence
  • Demonstrate a confident use of colour and techniques
  • Work with a range of media and develop your own style
  • Relate your work to contemporary and historical styles and ideas

Class format and activities

The course structure includes a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, power point presentations, one-to-one guidance, group discussions and appraisals. We will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists. Learners will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan to record goals, ideas, progress and processes.

This flexible and enjoyable course is open to everyone-whether you are a beginner keen to explore or have some experience and wish to develop your drawing and painting skills further. Ability to understand spoken English

What you can do next

On completion of this course, students will be encouraged to continue to explore and develop individual styles and methods through other courses in drawing, painting and mixed media.
