What you will learn

This course is for you:if you would like to communicate more fluentlyif you would like to give a short presentationif you would like to have a better understanding of English expressionsif you would like to improve your ability to read about a wider range of subjectsif you would write formally or informally with accuracy In this course, you will develop speaking and listening, reading and writing skills. Each term includes all four skills but focuses on a specific skill for the exam taken in that term. When you pass each skill you will receive a certificate for that particular skill.To achieve the full ESOL Level 1 qualification, you must pass Speaking and Listening Level 1, Reading Level 1 and Writing Level 1.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Obtain relevant information and detail from verbal communication
  • Use appropriate language in context according to formality
  • Contribute constructively to a discussion
  • Present information using an appropriate structure for a given purpose and audience

Class format and activities

This is an Online course. All lessons will take place online either on MsTeams or Google Meet. You will work in pairs or small groups or as a whole class group. You will also have the chance to talk on a one-to-one level with your tutor. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities such as listening to audios, role play, reading aloud, writing activities, quizzes, word searches and other games. You will also use YouTube, an interactive whiteboard and computers to help you learn. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life and work. You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you. Assessment methods: At the end of each term, you may take City & Guilds exams for the unit you are studying. If you pass an exam, you will receive a certificate from City and Guilds for that particular exam.

Entry requirements

• You will take an initial assessment which will determine your current level of English. • Or if you have passed ESOL Entry level 3, you may enrol onto this course.

Term 1 – Speaking and Listening Term 2 – Reading Term 3 – Writing What each term requires: • attending 2 classes of 3 hours per week • completion of homework • a minimum of 90% attendance per term
