During the Spring term beginners will explore a variety of lino techniques including single, two colour and reduction linocut. More advanced students will explore all these techniques and progress to a multi coloured large lino print. Taking a closer look at linocut the Monday Evening Class will look at the finer details of relief printmaking drawing inspiration from artists including Picasso, Tom Hammick and Eileen Cooper. Open to beginners and more advanced students learn how to mix inks, work effectively with the linocut tools and master the art of registration under expert tuition. In the first stage, beginners will create a single colour linocut learning the basics of lino cutting, mixing colours and working on the relief press. The second stage will be creating a two colour lincocut. The third stage will be advancing to a reduction linocut in three colours. For returning students the emphasis will be looking at how to make linocut prints experimenting with reduction linocut and colour. There will be tutorials and group discussions throughout the term where students are encouraged to discuss their work and participate in one to one tutorials. Students will be encouraged to keep a sketchbook providing stimulation and inspiration for their work. An outside group gallery visit will be arranged for all students to reinforce techniques studied in the class. Following on from this course, in the summer term on a Monday evening, the emphasis will be on project based work. The projects can either be set by the student or set by the tutor in either relief or intaglio printmaking techniques.
