Do faces fascinate you? Draw and paint from the model and learn to make portraits that are solid and realistic. Use knowledge of proportion, anatomical structure, tonal contrast and colour theory to improve your drawing and experiment with acrylic and/or oil painting.
This is a practical course and you will spend most of your time drawing and painting from the model and casts of the head. Your tutor will set different tasks for the class, as well as encouraging you to develop a personal style. There will be demonstrations and explanations of different approaches to portraiture. Tuition is given to the whole class and on an individual basis. You will also be encouraged to take part in discussions of artists' work and to learn from each other's different ways of working.
This course is suitable for people with some drawing & or painting experience. If you are a complete beginner, we recommend that you attend Drawing for beginners which will give you practice in gridding and measurement and analysing the proportions of the face.
