A practical introduction to Indian Head Massage for students with little or no knowledge or experience of massage. Students must be prepared to have other students practice on them. The person receiving the massage sits on a chair and is fully clothed. Indian Head massage is easy to learn and is a relaxing massage to give a loved one, family member, friend or colleague.

What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- List 2 benefits of Indian head massage
- List 2 contra-indications of Indian head massage
- List 2 important hygiene issues when giving Indian head massage
- Adjust your technique to suit different skin types, hair types/textures, ages and health situations: thus respecting equality and diversity
- Perform basic Indian head massage techniques on shoulders, neck, scalp and face
- Perform a 10 minute treatment on a fellow student
Cost
Class format and activities
This course will be offered as an in-person with social distancing course. Due to Covid-19 precautions you will be required to wear a mask for this course, and may be required to wear gloves at certain points. You will learn how to relax another person and be relaxed too. You must be prepared to have another student practice on you. You will give each other feedback: enabling self-evaluation and self-reflection. Pairs will remain constant throughout the session to achieve maximum social distancing. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Assessment is continuous through tutor observation, with questions and answers, checking for learning.
Entry requirements
There are no academic entry requirements to do this course. Anyone with little or no previous knowledge or experience of massage can do this course. Anyone with an interest in massage and its practice as a complementary therapy can also do this course.
What you need to know before you enrol
You must be able to stand comfortably for approximately 30 minutes and be happy to wear a mask for the duration of the session. Students must be prepared to have another student practice on them: not mind being touched on the face, head, neck, shoulders, hands and arms. What you need
Bring paper and pen to take notes with. Bring a mask to wear and antiseptic wipes to wipe your hands with. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Have clean washed hair and clean hands. If you have long hair, bring hair elastic / clips to hold up your long hair. No jewellery: any jewellery worn must be removed during the practice treatments.
