What you will learn

Create textiles in a stimulating and supportive environment in a specialist textiles studio. Develop your own projects with a view to exhibiting and working to commission. Special attention will be given to sustainability, research, design, exhibitions and current textiles practice. A series of workshops, demonstrations and presentations will be offered to explore textile techniques. This course is suitable for those with an independent outlook and creative experience, or who have completed the Textiles Foundation course and want to further their practice. The group hold in year or end of year exhibitions and participate in other opportunities arising through collaborations with other visual departments at Morley and external partners

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Develop your own historical and practical research for individual themes
  • Investigate a range of textile processes
  • Develop your own professional creative textile practice
  • Explore sustainable principles to embed in your own studio practise
  • Work towards exhibiting opportunities

Class format and activities

There are a series of (optional) focus sessions on different textile techniques each term. There is an optional project to link all the focus sessions together. Visits to current exhibitions arranged when appropriate. Group discussions, Q & A, introductions to new materials and techniques, practical help with equipment and materials.

Entry requirements

Ideally you will have completed the Textile Foundation course at Morley College, or have a BA in Textiles or a creative discipline, or a City & Guilds Certificate, or a Diploma in a Textile or creative subject

What you need to know before you enrol

The Textile Studio is on the second floor of the building,, a reasonable level of fitness is required. The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Sear Building. There is partial disabled access via a lift to the first floor and a stair lift to the second. Please contact ALS on: 0207 450 1972 or Art & Design Admin on: 0207 450 1934 before enrolling if you have any mobility support needs.
