Join our non-auditioning lunchtime choir led by conductor Benedict Collins-Rice. This choir is perfect for singers looking to enhance their musicianship and vocal skills while gaining experience in a mixed choir setting. Each session begins with vocal warm-ups to train your vocal apparatus, followed by simple musicianship exercises to improve sight-singing. The main focus will be on rehearsing the chosen repertoire for the term. Repertoire and performance dates will be announced on this page before the start of the academic term. For inquiries or to express interest in joining, please contact us at enquiries@staging.morleycollege.ac.uk. By joining, you commit to regular rehearsal attendance and are expected to purchase your own music copies. We will provide links to the music sources.
The sessions will commence with a range of physical and vocal warm-ups. For the main part of most sessions, the choir will be rehearsing the works it will be present in a live public end-of-term performance at the end of the term. In some sessions, the tutor will introduce exercises that aim at improving sight-singing and musicianship skills. Repertoire and performance dates will be announced on this page before the start of the academic term. You will need to be able to pitch notes. Although sight-reading is not necessary, you will be encouraged to follow the music and the text. If you are new to choral singing or unsure about your voice type (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), the tutor will be happy to provide a short vocal assessment upon request.
To be part of the Meridian Choir this term, you are committed to regular attendance in rehearsals and performances, as well as to purchase your own copy of the repertoire.
