Improve your playing and appreciation of jazz in a standard Big Band line-up, playing classic and contemporary arrangements. This course is designed for players at ABRSM Grade 7 level and above. Join in any term subject to audition.
As a member of the Morley Big Band, you will rehearse and work on a selected number of pieces chosen by the conductor. The course is designed to expose players to a very broad range of Jazz arrangements including classics from 30s, 40s, 50s and contemporary Jazz charts. As part of the class you will work on improving your sight-reading and your phrasing in the jazz idiom. Occasionally you will be working in sections. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
