This 12 week course is designed for those with little or no experience with clay who would like to learn the basics of ceramic making using handbuilding techniques. You will also learn how to decorate and glaze your pieces. The first six weeks we will concentrate on learning ceramic making and decorating techniques and the last six weeks you will work on a project to make a fully finished piece of ceramic work. On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Extended Award in Progression (Entry 3) [OCNLR]. Class format and activities
Demonstration, Q&A and guidance by tutor both individual and group these are practical hands-on sessions to develop your understanding of clay. You will complete a sketchbook with help form the tutor.
Entry requirements
None – Beginners welcome no previous knowledge of ceramics is required.
What you need to know before you enrol
Excellent attendance and punctuality are required from all students, you need to be able to all the sessions to get the most out of this course. The college will provide an amount of clay and decorative materials, and a sketchbook for your projects. However you may need to pay per kilo once this material is used up. You will need to provide basic drawing materials. We will be based in C22 a classroom used by the HND Ceramics groups on the second floor there is lift access.
What you need
Pens, Pencils, clothes you do not mind getting dirty, closed toe shoes. Please bring any clay tools you have, however, there will be pottery tools available to use on the course. The tutor can also advise you on tools to buy if you would like your own.
