This course is for learners at intermediate level, who possess basic 'classical' vocal technique, and are confident singing solo repertoire in front of a group. Enhance vocal technique, extend repertoire in classical music, folk tunes and standards, and gain experience in interpretation and performing.
Participating in weekly warm-ups of progressive vocal techniques involving easy movement, breathing and progressive vocal exercises to support development. Working individually with the tutor on chosen items Taking part in discussion, feedback, critique and class singing. Homework to practise technique. Choose and prepare items for work in class and for performances and/or recordings. Work on technique, performance skills and languages is ongoing throuout the year. Each term focuses on different repertroire: Term 1: Narrative repertoire Term 2: Descriptive repertoire Term 3: Repertoire describing a state of mind, soul or heart
You must have had at least a couple of years of vocal training to join this course. Ability to read music is essential. You will need to prepare solo items or ensembles from the classical repertoire between classes
The class involves some light physical movement, deep breathing for singing, solo singing and giving and receiving feedback on performance, as well as preparation work between classes.
