Mina Hobson-Mazur Biography

Mina was first introduced to the violin at the age of 5 by a family friend, the late Caroline Crouch. It was on her recommendation that Mina applied to the Centre for Young Musicians, where they studied violin and viola with Khac-Uyen Nguyen. Since 2019 Mina has been a pupil at The Purcell School, having been very fortunate to study viola under the tutelage of Sarah-Jane Bradley and violin under Tanja Goldberg. After this autumn’s auditions, Mina has accepted a full scholarship offer to study viola with Prof Martin Outram at Royal Academy of Music.

Last academic year they were proud to perform Weber’s Andante and Rondo Ungarese at the Janáček Concert Hall at Brno Conservatoire in the Czech Republic, and in a concert for young musicians in High Wycombe, this time with eminent pianist John Lenehan. Later that year Mina took part in a soloists’ concert at Benslow Music Trust. Finally this year they were delighted to be selected to perform at The Purcell School Soloists’ Concert at Wigmore Hall, performing Impetuoso from Rebecca Clarke’s Viola Sonata.

Mina Hibson-Mazur

Mina was a runner-up at the Louis Watt Competition both in 2022 (violin) and 2023 (viola). They have previously won recital prizes at Kingston, Blackheath and Beckenham Festivals.

As a member of the Odyssey Festival Orchestra, they were the Viola Section co-leader in the OFO’s January 2023 concert at a sold-out Queen Elizabeth Hall, and were very excited to lead the Section at its last three concerts at Cadogan Hall.

During the summer holidays Mina has been regularly attending String Courses at Brno Conservatoire in Czech Republic (Miroslav Kovář’s Viola Class, Pavel Kyncl/Richard Kružík’s Violin Class, Senior Orchestra lead by Eva Bublová) and the Summer Music Academy in Kroměříž, and also in the Czech Republic, (Pavel Nikl’s Viola Class, with the Academy Orchestra conducted by Tomáš Netopil).
