Wellbeing
Morley College is committed to supporting the wellbeing of our students. We know that students experience issues in their personal life and at college that can affect their ability to study and achieve. There are times when our students may feel stressed or anxious, overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to.
The Wellbeing Team offers a wide range of short term in-house interventions to support students who are experiencing issues such as:
- Exam/Assessment Stress
- Anxiety
- Relationship issues
- Low mood
- Confidence and self esteem
The Wellbeing Team can advise tutors on any adjustments that need to happen in the class to support the student, if applicable.
The Wellbeing Team, where appropriate, will refer students to other internal support teams such as Additional Learning Support, Student Finance or the College Counsellor.
The Wellbeing Team will also signpost students to specialist support services where applicable. For example, a student may need bereavement support, be put in contact with the local authority about a housing issue, or debt advice. The Wellbeing Team can support students to access their GP, Community Mental Health Team or local talking therapy such as Community Living Well, or another specialist agency in the community.
The service is confidential and non-judgemental. Sessions can take place face to face, via Teams, telephone, email or text message – whichever way suits the student the best.
The Wellbeing Team also deliver workshops around topics such as reducing anxiety, self-confidence and relaxation techniques. These workshops can be delivered in class or as part of a programme of wellbeing activities.
Over the summer the Wellbeing Team host a series of events to support students starting at the College in September. For example, a trip to the Chelsea Physic Garden to support the Five Ways to Wellbeing and online workshops with Community Living Well.
It is important to note that the Wellbeing Team is not a crisis support team. If a student is experiencing a crisis the College’s Safeguarding Team will support the student as appropriate. The safeguarding team can be contacted at safeguarding@staging.morleycollege.ac.uk
