Morley Tutor to Give Harpsichord Recital at the National Gallery

Morley Music Tutor Katarzyna Kowalik will be taking part in a National Gallery event celebrating the links between music and painting next week.

From the 16th to 18th centuries, harpsichords were at the centre of European culture – not just as musical instruments, but as works of art in their own right. Symbols of artistic inspiration, the grandest harpsichords had panels painted by leading artists including Jan Brueghal, Annibale Caracci and Sebastiano Ricci. The Celebrating the Harpsichord event marks the National Gallery’s recent acquisition of a harpsichord, donated by The Matthiesen Foundation. 

Katarzyna, who teaches Harpsichord courses at Morley, will perform a selection of pieces for the harpsichord written by such composers as Bach, Purcell, and Handel, among others. Visit her website here.

Tickets for Celebrating the Harpsichord cost £10 per person (£5 concession) and are available to buy on the National Gallery website. It takes place between 6.30pm and 8pm on Friday 13 December. Click here for full details.
