Matias is the Centre Principal for the Chelsea Centre for Creative Industries.
He is passionate about widening access to creative industries through contemporary inclusive learning and how collaborative partnerships and interdisciplinary practice can lead to powerful and transformative learning experiences.
As Dean for Pre Degree at Plymouth College of Art he led the Character Project, an initiative to enhance transferrable skills education, as well as contributing to a number of international projects on creative learning for the British Council and ERASMUS.
In his creative practice he is interested in gender and post-colonial identities through sculptural and performative practice.
Matias is a founding member of ECCITE, a European network for creative VET Education and chairs SWASH, a network for FE Heads of Creative Departments in Further Education. Matias also contributes to the Qualification Advisory Group for UAL Awarding Body and is currently part of the ETF Creative & Design ‘Expert Panel’.
