Young Adult carers
Who is a Young Adult Carer?
At Morley we define a young adult carer (YAC) as anyone who is aged 16-25 years that helps care for a family member, partner, or friend who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, has a long-term serious illness or has a substance misuse problem.
What does Morley offer?
At Morley we recognise the commitment you are making by studying with us and also recognise that this may be a tough journey for you at times, as you balance your study and caring responsibilities. We will work with you to ensure that the academic team are able to support you in relation to succeeding on your course, taking your individual home circumstances into account e.g. reasonable adjustments around submission dates and signposting you to other relevant support whether that is inside or outside of the College.
One to one support with our Wellbeing Team
You can have regular check-ins with our Wellbeing Team who can provide support in relation to your mental health and wellbeing, and help you access external support if necessary. You can contact them on Morley Wellbeing wellbeing@staging.morleycollege.ac.uk
Personal tutor
Once you have enrolled you will be assigned a Personal Tutor. Their main role is to advise you on academic matters, but you can also discuss non-academic matters with them. If they aren’t able to help you, they will liaise with colleagues to get you the support you need.
Get involved in Young Carers Awareness Week
Working with our Wellbeing Coordinator you will get the opportunity to feed into what it is you would like to see the college do during Young Carers Awareness Week. You can also get involved in running or coordinating an event if this is something that appeals to you.
